RELEVANCE OF ROTATIONAL PRESIDENCY IN A DEMOCRATIC SETTING: A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA.

Abstract

The major aims of this research work are to explore and describe “The relevance of rotational presidency in a democratic setting,” and Nigeria as a sovereign State was used as a case study. Historical analysis was used in the research. The theory of conflict perspective by karl Marx was used as a theoretical Framework to draw the road map on the genesis, rationale and quest for power struggle and dominance in our contemporary societies. While Nigeria’s theory of federal character principle was used as empirical Framework was used to highlight and create enabling political plain and measures to submerge the conflict perspective towards ensuring equity and
equal opportunity to all Nigeria citizens in public service and National Government. Some of findings of this research showed that rotational presidency is the most preferred for fair treatment in any democratic setting. Recommendations were made among which is that Nigeria government should provide constitutional models (standard) upon which the electoral umpire should draw their guidelines in working out national scheme which every eligible party shall uphold without refusal in Nigeria.
